Prayer Emblem

Roger Haczynski age 75, of Beecher, passed away Friday, September 1, 2017. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, JoeAnn (nee Wieczorek); Son Christopher (Patricia) Haczynski, Daughter Colleen (Richard) Chang; Grandchildren Benjamin & Brandon Haczynski and Jordan & Madison Chang. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elizabeth.

Roger spent his professional career as a Mechanical Engineer working for Federal Signal Corporation and Bimba Manufacturing, where he was granted three Patents for his original designs. At the same time he was an entrepreneur, owning, with his wife, a furniture refinishing business in the south suburbs of Chicago for 36 years. It was a tossup to determine what he loved more, working with furniture or talking with the people he would meet. He realized his true passion after he retired, Sundays at Uncle John's flea market and garage sales. Roger and JoeAnn would travel to more than a 1000 sales in a season, expanding out of the region to include Florida and California. Roger was a lifelong fisherman and enjoyed all types of fishing, from fly fishing to deep sea fishing. After a big catch, he would often say "It's sometimes better to be lucky than good". The annual "Beecher Sportsman's Club Fishing Extravaganza", as he would call it, with his children and grandchildren was one of his most favorite. He particularly enjoyed traveling with JoeAnn to watch his grandchildren compete in their chosen sports from Baseball to Basketball to Robotics. Roger is loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, September 5th, 2017 from 3pm to 8pm at BURDAN FUNERAL HOME, 12901 Wicker Ave, Cedar Lake, IN. A mass will take place on Wednesday, September 6th, 2017 at 10am at Holy Name Catholic Church, 11000 W 133rd Ave, Cedar Lake, IN. Burial to follow at Holy Name Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
