Jeffrey John Sims, of Cedar Lake, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Jeff had touched in some way throughout his memorable life. He is survived by his younger brother, Tim (Peggy) Sims; and proud uncle of nephew John "Johnny" Sims, of Crown Point; cousins, Warren (Kathy) Benko, Robert (Paulette) Benko, and Gayle (Keith) Schillo; also survived by special friends, Pete and Margie Carrasco; and special neighbors, the Molden family; many friends from grade school through Indiana University, Bloomington. Preceded in death by his father, John "Jack" Sims; mother, Betty Sims; and older brother, David Sims; along with Uncle Louie and Aunt Fran Benko.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 10:30 am at Holy Name Catholic Church 11000 W. 133rd Ave, Cedar Lake with Fr. Michael Surufka, O.F.M. officiating.
Jeff enjoyed over 30 years of sailing his sailboat the "Old Man Sonar" on Lake Michigan out of Chicago's Monroe Harbor. For the past 14 years, Jeff was employed by PepsiCo Beverages, where he loved working in both the Chicago, IL and Munster, IN plants. Jeff became a Pepsi Ambassador in 2015. Previously, Jeff spent 15 years working at Avery Dennison in Lowell; as well as, Union Carbide, Hanover Township Trustee, Indiana Department of Welfare Board Member and QMS over the years.
In lieu of flowers donations to the family to be shared among Jeff's many charitable interests will be greatly appreciated.
