James Bernard Greenwell, age 86, of Valparaiso, IN passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018. He is survived by his sons, Brad (Karen), Todd, and Jeff (Karin) Greenwell; grandchildren, Holly, Erik, Alyssa, and Alex Greenwell; sisters, Dorothy (late Bob) Konopasek, Emalie (Jerry) Gindl, and Faye Koby; brother, Vern (late Millie) Greenwell; his Fighting Irish buddy, Mike Hall; and all his friends at Suzie's Cafe. Preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and son, Bryan.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church 5885 Harrison St, Merrillville, IN 46410 at 10:00 am with Fr. James Meade officiating. Friends may meet with the family from 9:00 am until the time of mass. Inurnment will follow at German Methodist Cemetery, Cedar Lake, IN.
Bernie was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army. He was the owner of the Gateway Grocery Stores for many years. Bernie was the #1 Notre Dame Super Fan who loved his family, his friends, and the Fighting Irish. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
