Condolence & Memory Journal

I also painted with Darlene at Wes B.'s class years ago...We were also in 18 Artists years ago. Darlene was so sweet and kind and such a very talented artist. My husband and I always enjoyed chatting with Darlene. She was a tough, kind resilient, strong woman whom I'd admired greatly.

I painted with Darlene in Wes Berrier's class at the old FOP hall in Hobart for 4 years. Darlene was her own person, never put on any airs, and did a great job with the paint brush and also colored pencil. She is gone, but her work will live on for who knows how long...every one of them is a part of her.

She was always so kind and sweet and supportive. I always felt close to Darlene. She had the most beautiful soul. This is such a tremendous shock to me...Wished I'd known this earlier and could have been there for her. She will always be remembered and loved!

Deepest sympathy on the loss of your mother. She lived next door to us in Chalmers. She was an only child and our family had 5 children. So a difference in family/living style. She was like one of our family and we kept in touch over the years. My last visit w/ her and friend (and a fellow classmate, Phyllis) was at my brother's funeral in 2014. It was always so easy to sit and catch up. Darlene had many interests, she LOVED animals...even had a horse (too big and spirited) and not enough room at her home in Chalmers...she was determined about the horse. She was kind and loving to many, especially the four legged buddies. Her artwork is so detailed and beautiful..I will cherish the Christmas cards/stationery she made and used to send me notes. I kept them all. She graduated w/ me in our class of 1963 at Chalmers. I am so sorry I did not know she was battling cancer. I will remember her quick to laugh and smile personality as it was truly wonderful.

We are so sorry for the loss of this great woman! Darlene was a great customer of ours at Leos for several years and always had a smile and Bubba with her. We all loved her here and will miss her greatly. Our prayers to the family at this difficult time.

Dear Julie and Theresa, Wayne, Cindy, and Brandon,

Our hearts go out to you in the loss of your beloved mother, Darlene. We recently moved to Georgia, from Crown Point, Indiana, where we knew your mom for many years through the various arts leagues and arts organizations we all belonged to together. Darlene was, and still is, a very talented artist. I am certain she is looking down on us all, right now, chuckling, amused by our consternation at her passing, while paintbrush in hand, she, herself, is attempting to capture the beauty of her surroundings on canvas, that inimitable laughter of hers ringing throughout the heavens. May your grief over her loss be eased by the echo of her joyful laughter and the knowledge that she is painting the heavens, and has, at long last, been reunited with her beloved, and loving, mother and father.

With deepest sympathy,

Jim and Bev Topa

Our prayers are with Julie & Theresa - as well as the rest of Darlene's family - during this difficult time. We were honored to meet Darlene last summer when she was in Massachusetts, and we enjoyed a nice dinner at Dave's Diner after church. I'll remember her smile and her great stories. So sorry, Julie .
